Koa Coffee

Nothing beats a sweet smell of coffee in the morning that lingers to our senses. Coffee lovers like me can feel the caffeine that gives richness and aroma while working.

When I was young, I was always curious how coffee tastes like because I love its smell. Coffee is one of my most consumed beverages from then till now.

As I grew older and had permission to drink coffee, I explored different variants of this drink, and I fell in love with Koa Coffee. I can even consume 2-3 cups of Koa Coffee a day.

What distinguishes it from other coffees? Let us explore the wonders of Koa Coffee.

What is Koa Coffee?

Origin

Acacia Koa is the largest tree in the Hawaiian Islands. It can reach over 35 meters or 115 feet. Koa Coffee is uniquely grown, harvested, and processed only in the Kona region.

The first person to try a horticultural experiment was Don Francisco de Paula Marin in 1817. He introduced many plant species to the Hawaiian Islands, but most of them failed to propagate the plant, and eventually, the seedlings perished.

In 1828, Samuel Ruggles planted the first Kona coffee and more plantations followed to open after decades. But in the 1850s, misfortunes occurred due to lack of labor, poor weather, and pests. Most plants perished and died eventually, but Kona trees still survived.

Where Is Koa Coffee Grown?

People from Hawaii nurture koa coffee on the:

  • Hills of Mauna Loa
  • Hualalai in the North
  • South Kona Districts of the Big Island of Hawaii

Only coffees from Kona can legally be called “Kona”. The Kona region is known best for its almost perfect growing condition, such as fertile, porous soil, and rich in minerals due to volcanic eruptions.

It is no surprise that the coffee produced here is of such high quality. The coffee beans are all selected by hand and processed only when they are cherry red. They are then roasted with the utmost attention, producing a unique coffee with a delicate yet rich flavor and aroma.

Every roast is also cupped by Koa coffee to ensure that the flavor is fine.

These beans, which are smaller and have more flavor, are the result of a natural mutation within the coffee plant. Peaberry Kona is a rare delicacy, with demand often outstripping supply.

The Peaberry Kona is much smoother and sweeter than normal Kona, and it could just blow your mind. Although Koa Coffee isn’t the only company selling peaberry coffee, you can trust that the beans have been hand-picked and handled with care before reaching your cup.

Espresso

Espresso is a concentrated coffee served in short, solid shots that serve as the foundation for a variety of coffee drinks. It is made from the same beans as coffee, but it’s more potent, thicker, and caffeine-rich.

Espresso, on the other hand, contains less caffeine per serving than coffee since it is usually served in smaller portions.
