But after sampling around the world's most popular coffees from Jamaica Blue Mountain, Kenya Kaazi... French Roast Coffee became my favorite kind.

  • A bit on the milder side, and doesn't have the bitter taste despite it being a dark roast.
  • It comes in airtight resealable packaging.
  • Can easily be bought online and in retail stores.

Cons:

  • Eight O'Clock French Roast may taste bland for strong coffee drinkers.

  • The packaging doesn't keep the coffee fresh for long.

I once visited my cousin and her spouse when I was in their state. She offered me a cup of coffee while we're catching up and I just had to ask what her coffee brand was.

It had this fresh aroma and smooth texture. I assumed it was a medium roast coffee but I was surprised when she showed me the package of Eight O'Clock Whole Bean Coffee, French Roast.

It tasted and felt like a lighter version of dark roast. It's mild and it's preferable to be brewed hot rather than cold as it gives a deeper flavor. So if you're coming from a lighter roast and want to try out the darker options, Eight O'Clock Whole Bean Coffee, French Roast is a good transition option. It has airtight packaging and a really affordable price for its quality.

My cousin gave me a pack since she saw how much I loved it. I order it from time to time for when I want something lighter, but still a dark roast.

This French Roast Coffee is made and roasted by Peet's, a well-known brand throughout history when it comes to coffee beans roasting and retailing. If you're a newbie like me and want to know what will suit your taste, the smart thing to do is buy from a reliable company, one that everyone raves about. This is why I checked Peet's Coffee French Roast. I've heard it from a friend, and she insisted that I try it.

I was apprehensive at first, but I decided to give it a go and boy, oh boy, did I regret not trying it sooner.

Peet's Coffee French Roast has an intense earthy caramel flavor with a burnt undertone. It gives a whole and smooth texture.

This coffee is strong and the acidity is unnoticeable. It will surely delight anyone who prefers the bold and complex taste. It also smells great!

What I really liked the most about this French roast coffee by Peet's is the roast date info that's stamped on their packaging. This lets me know how fresh the coffee is. I like the fact that I'm aware of when my coffee beans are about to go stale.

Overall, this does not disappoint in terms of flavor, freshness, and is an alternative to a local roaster.

  • Pricey

Cons:

  • The flavor may be a little too robust for some taste pallets.
  • The ground coffee type is extremely fine.
  • The packaging is a bit small and is not resealable.

Gevalia French Roast Whole Bean Coffee is one of the premium coffees out there.

They have different variants like coffee pods, ground and whole beans, and instant coffees. Gevalia takes pride in their Swedish coffee-making tradition.

I tried it so I can compare this to the other dark roasts that I've tasted. I was curious as to how this is different because, well, the price is above my normal budget. It's not cheap.

The first thing I noticed is their yellow minimal packaging. The coffee bag is resealable but it is filled too little for the size. I would advise transferring it to a coffee container for better storage and coffee freshness longevity.

This coffee produced an awesomely smooth and slightly nutty cup of coffee with a delightfully subtle dark fruit finish. There isn't any hint of acidity and although it has a strong flavor, it isn't that bitter. It is indeed rich without being overpowering.

If you're a Starbucks fan like me, you may think that Gevalia French Roast is not strong enough. Regardless, you'll absolutely enjoy this as an everyday morning coffee before everything else.

When you think of coffee, you'll most probably associate it with Starbucks, a well-known cafe that serves satisfying coffee anytime and anywhere. There was a time when I was too busy and lazy to actually go to Starbucks and so I decided to try and have my own pack at home. I'm into French Roast recently and bought the first product that popped up on the internet.

Starbucks French Roast makes some of the best cold brew coffees I have tried. You can still make it with other types of brew and you will still make a rich and straightforward coffee in every cup. It has a hint of bitterness, a little acidity, and a notable smoky flavor.

Overview

The flavor of coffee is so rich and tempting, we can't get enough of it. But what do you do when your taste buds are craving a good cup but there's nowhere to go? I find that having my own at home while getting the same quality as in cafes is unimaginably more convenient for me.

The problem I had when I first thought about it was what to buy and where? I imagined what it would be like when I first stood in front of a cafe menu. Overwhelmed and afraid that I will not like what I select and waste money.

I was looking for a delicious homemade coffee that will not punch a hole in my pocket every time I buy it with my groceries.

It was trial and error until I found my selection of favorite French roast coffee to keep at home and make me happy every day with every sip.

What is French Roast Coffee?

Best French Roast Coffee

French Roast Coffee is under the dark roast coffee category. This means that the beans are darker in color and its beans look like dark chocolate.

French Roast coffee got its name from the roasting style used to make it which originated from France. It doesn’t necessarily mean that the beans came from there as well. It is considered one of the darkest coffees you can get out there.

What Does French Roast Coffee Taste Like?

French Roast Coffee is known for its distinct smoky-sweet flavor. It sometimes has an earthy charred undertone that feels thin and whole at the same time. One can call it a “burnt coffee” if you will.

Benefits of French Roast Coffee

One of the main benefits that we can get from French Roast Coffee is caffeine which is known for its great help with brain health. It’s linked to lowering the chances of getting mental health issues like Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and other cognitive impairment.

Buying Guides to Choosing the Best French Roast Coffee

Coffee Beans Quality

Selecting a high-quality coffee bean is a must and it will definitely give you a truly delightful coffee experience. This is because the brew or roast you can make highly depends, of course, on the beans that it was extracted or made from.

One of the things to check is the source or origin as it promotes transparency. Roast date is more important than the Best by date as the coffee beans' peak freshness is within 2-3 weeks from roasting date.

Freshly made and high-quality coffee beans will give a sweet crisp flavor and strong aroma from the natural oils that surfaced. It only has a hint of bitterness.

Flavor

Since French Roast Coffee is under the dark roast category, it's distinguished by its intense, sweet, and smoky flavor. Some are into the burnt undertone and some really don't like it.

Freshness

Coffee beans can quickly become stale and it affects the fullness of your brew. Note that storage and packaging need to be considered as this will greatly affect the freshness and the rate of decay.

Fresh coffee beans have a rich and vibrant flavor while an old stock will give a bitter and undesirable taste that lingers in your tongue.

Caffeinated or Decaffeinated?

Whether you have to avoid caffeine or not, there's always a selection of decaffeinated French roast coffee you can choose from.

The caffeinated vs. decaffeinated flavors are almost similar so you won't be having that much conflict when choosing between the two. It's a matter of preference and needs.

Look, we all want to enjoy the taste of coffee, with or without caffeine in it.

Conclusion

To round it all up, I think Peet's Coffee French Roast is the best in the list.

I personally advise you to try this out as this French roast coffee is transparent with its freshness and it maintains a high-quality feel and flavor that will give you a pleasurable experience with coffee that is made at home.

With its affordable price and exquisite flavor, this is unquestionably a great choice, and I highly praise it for its worth.
