Zine making wksp

In an era of disappearing print publications, amazon orders, and anxiety, we are going back to the basics of paper and ink with a zine-making workshop at Colony Club. Guest instructor Lily Strelich, an editor of 730DC and freelance writer/illustrator, is joining the Distill Creative Crew (Sally and Valerie) to teach you how to make your own zine while drinking a Tea Riot cocktail.

Zines, DIY indie publications, have been around since 1930 and were popularized in the 70s when copy shops and copy machines were adopted as a staple of modern office culture. Rooted in the punk movement, zines were a quick and cheap way to get messages— especially counter-culture ideas—disseminated to the masses. DC has a unique place in zine history, being one of the first places that riot grrrl zines were distributed, helping to popularize punk feminism in the 90s.

In this workshop, you’ll learn how to make a zine. We're thinking the zine's would be special valentines for your grrrl friends, but you do you!
